I had originally entitled this walk “White Peak Henges and other Mysteries”.  But when I recced it turned out that there would be too much road walking and also an entry fee to Arbor Low.  So a round of Lathkill Dale was substituted instead.

On the day we were lucky with the weather and a group of eight set off from Monyash at nine o’clock.  We headed along the Limestone Way to the mediaeval monastic farm at One Ash Grange where the party were treated to a short discourse on the Benedictine system of husbandry and farming.

That over with off we went for a “brew stop” on the old bridge in Bradford Dale.  Emily needed to get back to Manc in the early afternoon so we split into two groups to quicken her progress – completing the pretty much “standard” route past Youlgreave, Conksbury Bridge and then the eponymous Lathkill Dale.

Lunch was had sat under the old market cross on the village green at Monyash – allowing the cake delights of the tea shop to be sampled.

Hopefully a good day had by all.

Meet Promo:

Lathkill Dale Round

Having recced the walk I originally planned for this day – it turned out not to be the best – with too much road walking and an entrance fee to Arbor Low.

So I have substituted it with a 12 mile circuit from Monyash taking in Bradford Dale and Lathkill Dale.

Meet at 09:00hrs by the old market cross on Monyash village green (GridRef: 150665).  There is a fee car park 200 metres north of the green in Chapel Street.

Best Regards

Bob
