Bouldering: Stanage Far Right

Emily Pitts

Attended: Lorna Fewtrell, Fruit (Guests)

Advances were made to Stanage, but wet rock precluded bouldering, so Emily de-camped to Outside in Hathersage for Breakfast, Tea and Cake.  Meanwhile Lorna and Fruit braved the elements, discovering same said wet rock and decanted themselves to join Emily at Outside.  A fun day talking about climbing ensued.

Meet Promo:

Stanage is the popular queen of Gritstone climbing.  And deservedly so with the multiplicity of routes and good quality rock in volumes not seen anywhere else in the UK.  But what about the bouldering??

The area boasts a series of bouldering outcrops.  Stanage far right is easily accessible from the Popular End car park and boasts a good range of problems, including Sparky Slab on The Henge, coming in at 3+,  Staircase Flake (5) and Gripple Graunch (6b) on Gripple Buttress.  There really is something for everyone and enough to keep anyone busy for days.

With the weather closing in, the idea behind our bouldering meets is to get outdoors without freezing to death trying to place gear.   There will be cake to help ensure we have enough energy to keep us going.   You’re always welcome to bring cake too.

Bring rock shoes, chalk, a bouldering matt if you have one, as well as plenty of layers and a flask to warm you up if it gets chilly.  We’ll stay out as long as we remain compos mentis – it all depends on which conditions are thrown at us!

We will meet at 9.30am in the café of Outside in Hathersage, proceeding to The Henge for 10.30am.  In the event of temporarily inclement weather, then we will hang around in the Outside Café in the hope of a change for the better.  If unsure, check out the scribble at 9am, where the meet leader will post changes to the plan.

See you there.

Any questions, please email meet leader.
