Roaches Boulder/climb

Lewis Stonehouse

Whilst winter is undeniably drawing in, fortunately for us the ‘one last day of good weather’ seems to keep coming around. To make the most of the favourable forecast on Sunday, we’re heading to the Roaches. A stunning crag with something for everyone, Jared will (quite sensibly I would add) be bouldering, whilst I will be trying to squeeze out the last few routes of the year and freezing my proverbials off on the belays.

Whilst there is plenty of parking, it is a popular spot for both climbers and hillwalkers and it has been known to arrive and be unable to find a single space. For that reason, I’m going to aim to get there relatively early (9.30 ish), and suggest others consider doing the same. Even better if you can lift share. The closest parking to the crag is in laybys on the Roach Road out of the hamlet of Upper Hulme. Do not park outside the marked bays as traffic wardens patrol the area seven days a week. Grid reference SK002630.

I’ll be starting in the lower tier Yong area and will see what we fancy after that.

Keep an eye on WhatsApp for any updates.

Hopefully see you there.

Lewis

PS you might be grateful of your warmest clothes and a flask of something hot.
