Outdoor First Aid 2025

UPDATE 18/12/2024: The course is now full. If you would like to be added to the waiting list please email the meet leader.

Introduction

The club has arranged for a 2 day (16 hour) outdoor first aid course for members. The course is the same course that is completed by outdoor professionals and teaches essential knowledge for anyone who spends time in the outdoors enjoying their outdoor pursuits. It is also essential knowledge for those who lead others into the outdoors and is equally valid for everyday life too. It is worth keeping those skills up-to-date even if you’ve done a similar course before and I hope you all consider joining the course.

Course information

The course includes training in: Roles & responsibilities of first aiders, dealing with collapses (with and without breathing), choking, bleeding, shock, major illnesses, torso and limb injuries, environmental effects, injuries caused by heat and cold, using first aid kit, outdoor incident management in different scenarios, answering queries such as when or how to remove boots, helmets and looking after a casualty while help arrives.

This qualification is designed to provide outdoor incident management skills to attendees. The course is mainly practical, and some elements will be outside in various terrains. The course is assessed by continual observation of candidate performance and a multiple-choice questionnaire.

On successful completion attendees will achieve a nationally recognized qualification that evidences their competence as an outdoor first aider and receive a certificate.
