Joint KMC-FRCC winter mountaineering meet, Waters Cottage.

This is a Scottish winter mountaineering meet running for seven nights, arriving from Sunday 7th February and leaving Sunday 14th February. It follows on from the KMC Ochills hut meet at Crainlarich - Thur 4th to Sun 7th (meet leader for this is Becca Gardner, see separate promo).

People are also welcome to come for the weekend of the 12th/13th as well – you don’t need to stay the whole week. If anyone wants just an extra night or two after Ochills that is also possible.

This is a joint meet with the FRCC so we can expect the hut to be busy, which, if you know Waters is a good thing, as a busy hut means a warm hut. This may be the last year that Waters is in its current configuration – a big investment plan is on the cards for later in 2027 / early 2028.

The area and activities

Kinlochleven is a great base, being the best placed hut for superb winter walking in the Mamores right out of the door of the hut. Glencoe climbing with the uber classics of Aonach Eagach and Sron na Laraig are easy to access, along with the major venues of Stob Corrie nan Lochan and Buchaille Etive Mor. There can be good skiing at the Glencoe ski centre. Ben Nevis (45 minutes) and Aonach Mor ski centre (50 mins) are easy to get to, and even Creag Meagaidh is within striking distance (75 mins).

If you have recently attended a Winter Skills training course, this would be an ideal meet to come and practise what you learnt. Please contact me (Andy Stratford) for more information before booking onto the meet if your experience is limited.

Booking

This meet is available to full and associate members only; prospective members are not eligible to attend this meet.

Places are £14 a night – this may change if FRCC hut fees increase. Hut fees are payable in full in advance and will be collected the first week of January 2027.
