Fri 1st May - Mon 4th May, 2026
Wild Ennerdale, Pillar and Steeple
Wild Ennerdale, Pillar and Steeple.
Early May Bank Holiday weekend – 3 nights, Friday 1st May to Monday 4th May.
A meet suitable for all full and associate club members – climbers, scramblers, walkers, mountain bikers and swimmers!
****STOP PRESS - 14th January****
As of 14th January, this meet is now full if everyone who is ''intending'' pays their deposit. Given the size of the meet, it is more likely than not that a reserve's list will come into play, and nearer the time, illness often prevents people from attending. If you would like a place on the 'reserves' list, please use the 'add-me' option, and one of us will get in touch shortly after.
****ENDS*****
Booking is open now, so don’t hesitate to ‘’intend to attend’’ – that’s the only way bookings will be taken for the meet. LOG IN to the website and add yourself: first-come, first-served.
2026 marks 200 years since the first known ascent of iconic Pillar Rock. Located in Ennerdale, Pillar can be accessed from Wasdale or Buttermere, but most conveniently from Ennerdale itself. Pillar was one of the main crags for the Lakes district pioneers for decades and is still one of the Lakes’ most significant multipitch climbing venues, including routes listed in Ken Wilson’s ‘’Classic Rock’’ ticklist.
Steeple Buttress (with a classic 160m V Diff) and surrounding crags in Mirk Cove are amongst the most remote crags in the Lakes, and access is again easiest from Ennerdale.
Ennerdale, once cloaked in commercial forestry, has undergone one of the most extensive rewilding projects in England and is a stunning valley alive with over 100 species of birds, deer, otters, red squirrels, and butterflies. Aside from the climbing venues, there is superb walking and mountain biking.
Our accommodation for twenty-four people is split across two of the YHA buildings.
The well-equipped YHA Ennerdale ‘’camping barn’’ – a misnomer if ever there was one, having a fully equipped kitchen, a toilet and a shower. All bed linen is provided. There are twelve spaces available. There is dining seating for about eight in the cosy dining-kitchen.
In the main building, we have three small private rooms – each for four people. There is access to all the shared facilities in the main building, including the big self-catering kitchen, toilets, showers and lounge. The main building has a licensed bar, and you can even order a full breakfast.
The costs for the private rooms in the YHA main building vary slightly, but for ease and fairness, we have summed it together to divide by 12; for the 3 nights. it will be a total of around £105. The camping barn is a little less - the total due will be closer to £80. Due to booking conditions, we can't accept payment for either the camping barn or the hostel dorms for fewer than 3 nights.
Once we get a clear idea of who is coming, we can split people across the accommodation – I think we’ll have at least one dorm as ladies only, but we’ll see who signs up! We are hoping to negotiate the use of the main kitchen for one shared meal for everyone, we'll update once we know the score.
Payment will be due in full before the end of January 2026, and we'll let people know the exact amount very soon.
